We’ve officially broken ground on the Lange II Generating Station in Rapid City, South Dakota! This investment will add 99 megawatts of fast-start, on-demand generation to our system — strengthening grid reliability, supporting renewable integration and meeting the energy needs of our South Dakota and eastern Wyoming customers from the upcoming retirement of older units. Lange II is powered by advanced dual-fuel RICE engine technology and represents the kind of innovation and infrastructure that defines our commitment to safe, reliable and cost-effective energy. Thank you to the many partners who made this possible — City of Rapid City, Pennington County, SD, state agencies, our engineers, contractors and suppliers. Most of all, thank you to the Black Hills Energy employees who brought this project to life through hard work, expertise and dedication. We’re proud to continue powering progress in the communities we serve. August 11 was more than just a date on the calendar — it was 811 Day, a nationwide reminder that safety starts underground. This year, we took our outreach to the next level. Our team was out in full force, meeting face-to-face with contractors and engaging with the community to spread one vital message: call 811 before you dig. From planting a tree in your yard to breaking ground on a major construction site, every digging project carries risk. Beneath our feet lies a network of critical infrastructure — gas lines, water pipes, electrical cables — and striking one can lead to serious consequences. That’s why contacting 811 before you dig isn’t just a good idea — it’s a necessary step to protect lives, property, and essential services. 811 Day is a chance to raise awareness, but the message applies year-round. Safe digging starts with a simple call or click. Let’s keep our communities safe, one project at a time.

Our natural gas utility workers do more than provide energy to our customers. They consistently go above and beyond to make a positive impact on the communities they serve, both on and off the job. In partnership with American Gas Association's "Making a Difference" series — we're proud to highlight one of our very own dedicated employees, Jonathan Bourdreaux. Using his first responder training, Jonathan provided life-saving assistance to a woman who was choking. His actions exemplify the commitment our teams have to safety and the care we take each and every day. This dedication not only enhances community trust but also reinforces our company's reputation for excellence in safety. Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a federal holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally received the news of the Emancipation Proclamation, signed by President Lincoln over two years earlier. Join us as we reflect on the rich traditions, achievements, and contributions of the African American community, and honor this pivotal moment in American history.
