It’s We’re Good Wednesday! Join us and learn about College Track - a life changing program made possible by NBA superstar Kevin Durant’s $10 million commitment to his hometown. Set just across the street from Suitland High School in Prince George’s County, Maryland, College Track at the Durant Center is changing lives by guiding first-generation college students through high school, college, and beyond. You’ll hear the emotional reflections of Wanda Durant —Kevin’s mother and President of the Durant Family Foundation—who shares what it means to witness the first cohort of graduates fulfill a dream long held by her family. Alongside her, Executive Site Director - James D. Williams II, explains how College Track doesn’t just focus on grades, but treats each student holistically, offering emotional support, mentorship, family engagement, and life coaching. But it’s the story of Mamadi Diallo, a college junior and proud alumnus of the program, that truly brings the mission to life. From his early doubts to now thriving in college, Mamadi shares how College Track gave him the confidence, skills, and community he needed to succeed—both academically and personally. Did you know that approximately 600,000 military families relocate every year? Relocation is never easy—and for military families, it happens often. In 2009, Blue Star Families' CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet surveyed the military community to better understand their needs. That data laid the groundwork for what Blue Star Families does today: supporting military families from boot camp to retirement through programs, community events, media campaigns, advocacy, and more. On this week’s We’re Good podcast, you'll hear from Program Manager Krysti Pereira and Space Force spouse Lesley Rose about the impact of Blue Star Families in the DC region, where the Sheila and George Casey NCR Chapter supports 138,000 military families. You'll learn about: - Coffee Connect with Starbucks—welcoming military-connected families across the country - Blue Star Welcome Week (Sept 27–Oct 5)—helping families settle into new communities - Blue Star Museums—offering free admission to 2,000+ museums from Armed Forces Day to Labor Day - Combat the Silence—an Emmy-winning campaign addressing suicide in the military community Want to help? If a military family has moved into your neighborhood, say hi. Offer a hand - even as an emergency contact for school. These small gestures go a long way towards welcoming them to the community. Our military and their families are constantly on the move – from deployments to new assignments – making it a challenge to feel at home in a new community, find employment and take care of their families. That’s where Blue Star Families comes in. Started by a group of military spouses who realized military families were in need of more support. Tune in to Weregood.net and meet Blue Star Families Krysti Pereira and Space Force spouse Lesley Rose as they share their stories and how civilians, neighbors, and businesses can make a difference. #weregoodpodcast #militarycommunity Lee Ann Necessary Brownlee Tanya Ruiz La Force Mary Ellen Chandler Matheson, MBA

Join the We’re Good team as we visit Dog Tag Bakery in the heart of Georgetown and learn how buying a treat there helps change lives for our military community across the country. Dog Tag offers an Entrepreneurial 5-month Fellowship Program through Georgetown University that equips veterans, military spouses, and caregivers with the tools and education to expand career skills and build community beyond the military. You’ll hear that military spouses are the most underpaid segment of our population. Through the program, graduates don’t just leave with a business certificate from Georgetown University—they gain lifelong friends, cheerleaders, and collaborators and lay the foundation for their next venture. Some even launch nonprofits that support other veterans. Whether you’re part of the military community or not, you’ll want to hear how Dog Tag is making a difference. If you are, you may discover a path to get involved. If you’re not, you’ll gain insight into a remarkable community and organization. Tune in at weregood.net or wherever you get your podcasts.
