  • PODER is honored and profoundly grateful to the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) for their incredible $350,000 investment through the FY26 Innovative Bridge and Transitions Grant. This support is more than a grant, it is a strategic investment in the thousands of adults and families who walk through our doors each year seeking opportunity, stability, and belonging. Because of ICCB’s partnership, we can expand our Integrated English, digital literacy, and workforce development pathways, ensuring that even more adults gain the skills, confidence, and economic mobility they deserve. It allows us to strengthen the “bridge” that connects individuals to dignified work, education, and a better future for their families.

  • Chicago's business, civic, and faith leaders are standing together because what we're witnessing affects all of us—regardless of political affiliation, industry, or background. What unites us is a common understanding that terrorizing our own communities is bad for people and bad for business. ❌ Local businesses are losing employees. ❌ Restaurants sit empty. ❌ Workers and customers stay home rather than risk arrest. ❌ Neighborhood businesses dependent on foot traffic are seeing sharp declines. Immigrants make up 22% of Chicago’s workforce and contribute $22 BILLION annually to our economy, so when their market participation drops, every Chicagoan feels the impact. 📉 While immigration policy is complex and opinions differ, what unites us is simple: 🤝 A shared concern that extreme enforcement tactics are causing long-term harm to our city’s economic stability and the fabric of our communities. 📣 A commitment to safeguarding due process, supporting lawful and constructive approaches to law enforcement, and ensuring Chicago remains the thriving, vibrant city that we love. Business Leaders Unite For Chicago Chicago's business, civic, and faith leaders are standing together because what we're witnessing affects all of us—regardless of political affiliation, industry, or background. United for Chicago brings together members of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, Illinois Manufacturers' Association, Illinois Restaurant Association, Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and dozens of CEOs and civic leaders. Our members come from across the political spectrum, from different business sectors, and communities across the region. What unites us is a common understanding that terrorizing our own communities is bad for people and bad for business. The facts are clear: ❌ Local businesses are losing employees. Grateful for the opportunity to attend “Fundraising Strategies in a Shifting Political Landscape,” a dynamic and timely training hosted by the Chicago Vibrant Neighborhoods Collective (CVNC) at Parkway Social in Bronzeville. In a moment when nonprofits are being asked to do more with less, and while political and funding landscapes continue to shift, this convening was exactly what our sector needs. The sessions were powerful and practical, covering: 🔹 Pivoting from government to foundation funding with Frank Zhu, CPA 🔹 Converting partners into committed donors with Lisa Acker 🔹 Interactive group scenarios that pushed us to think creatively about relationship-building, strategic messaging, and long-term sustainability Leaders from across Chicago showed up ready to share challenges, exchange strategies, and strengthen the collective capacity of our communities. Grateful to Jaye Stapleton (fellow Wolverine), James Rudyk, and the entire CVNC team for curating such an energizing and thought-provoking space.

Last week, the Cook County Board of Commissioners voted to double the size of the Cook County Public Defender’s Immigration Division! This expansion will allow for Cook County to better defend immigrant families facing deportation. “As immigration enforcement becomes more unpredictable, as families across our neighborhoods, particularly Latino and immigrant families, are experiencing this heightened fear and instability, that commitment matters more than ever. Cook Country is ensuring that even more of our immigrant neighbors will receive competent, trusted legal representation at a moment when they need it most.” -José Marco-Paredes, VP of Civic Engagement, Latino Policy Forum As a member of the Defenders for All Coalition, the Latino Policy Forum was honored to stand alongside coalition partners who worked tirelessly to make this win possible and share our common vision of justice for all immigrant families in Illinois.
