As we step into the holiday season, we’re filled with gratitude for our CREAR Futuros family, our mentees, mentors, liaisons, and community partners who make this work meaningful every single day. This Thanksgiving, we’re especially grateful for the memories we’ve created together 🧡 Earlier this month, we joined CREAR Futuros: Lehman College, CUNY CREAR CT State, and CREAR Purchase at SUNY Purchase for a day of community, connection, and campus exploration. 🍁💛 Students from visiting campuses had the chance to tour, meet new peers, and discover all that Purchase College has to offer. We remain committed to supporting our students throughout their academic journeys and are thankful to do this work alongside all of you. A peer-mentorship program aimed at ensuring Latinx college students graduate and achieve their goals.
About us
CREAR (College Readiness, Achievement and Retention) Futuros is a peer-mentor program that recruits qualified Latinx students in participating educational institutions to mentor, guide, and support younger students, or mentees. CREAR Futuros aims to empower Latinx college students with the skills, resources, and community support needed to encourage college degree attainment. Powered by Hispanic Federation, the program includes engagement with HF staff including special professional development and career readiness training, relationship building with CREAR mentors/mentees, support from administrative/campus support staff, and guidance from corporate and member organizations. CREAR Futuros is focused specifically on actions that support college access, retention, and graduation rates for Latinx students in our nationwide campuses. While the program focuses on Latinx students, activities are open to all eligible students regardless of race or national origin

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we are proud to continue our partnership with Hispanic Federation & Macy's! Since 2007, Macy's has helped raise over $3.7 million for Hispanic Federation to support 23,000 people through the CREAR Futuros youth leadership program and Digital Equity Centers. Healthfirst Education and Leadership Program Scholarship Awards CREAR Futuros Mentee, Hailia Sommerville Healthfirst Education and Leadership Program Scholarship provided six students with financial assistance for education-related tuition and ancillary needs for the upcoming academic year. Hispanic Federation's CREAR Futuros collaborated with Healthfirst to identify one scholarship recipient. This year’s scholar, Hailia Sommerville, a CREAR mentee from Borough of Manhattan Community College, will receive funding toward college tuition and related expenses. We want to express our gratitude towards the Healthfirst Education and Leadership Program Scholarship for supporting our students!

That’s a wrap on the 2025 CREAR Futuros National Training! Over the past three days, we brought together more than 80 mentors and liaisons from 15 campuses in New York City to prepare them for their roles as leaders, strengthen their sense of community, and build essential mentorship skills. Day two of our CREAR Futuros National Training was a success! Today, we focused on strengthening connections from the inside out. Sessions explored the role of emotional intelligence in mentoring and the importance of understanding one another to create stronger, more meaningful relationships. During the training, we developed strategies for effective communication and introduced the Community of Care Model, an essential pillar of the CREAR Futuros mission. Mentors, mentees, and liaisons also got the opportunity to have PROFESSIONAL headshots taken of themselves to set them up for #success! Lastly... Join us in wishing our Director of CREAR Futuros & College Initiatives, Fatima Aviles, a happy birthday!

Today, we had the privilege of welcoming over 15 schools for our annual Crear Futuros National Training! As part of the Hispanic Federation’s commitment to student success, CREAR Futuros is dedicated to closing the gap in Latino college enrollment, retention, and graduation rates through community, connection, and leadership. Our first day began with inspiring welcome remarks from Hispanic Federation leadership. We took time to engage in impactful sessions focused on understanding the experiences of first-generation college students and examining the challenges faced by marginalized groups and multilingual communities.
