Last Thursday our coastal community gathered for a Content & Cocktails focused on the insights and results from the April 30 Reality Check 2.0 for the Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties region. Steve Dudash (Director of Special Projects, Navy Yard CHS; ULI SC District Council Chair and Reality Check 2.0 Co-Chair) and Ryan Wilcox (Regional Economic Development Specialist, BCD COG) shared the results from Reality Check 2.0, a regional planning exercise - co-hosted by Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments and ULI South Carolina - bringing together leaders from across government, business, and nonprofit sectors to collaboratively plan to accommodate the region's growth while increasing quality of life. With the Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester region projected to grow by 102,000 households, 270 new residents and 140,000 jobs by 2045, Reality Check 2.0 explored strategies for managing growth while preserving the region’s quality of life. Last week, we held an inspiring panel with the Presidents of three Upstate technical colleges: Dr. Larry Miller (Greenville Tech), Dr. Michael Mikota (Spartanburg Community College) and Dr. D. Galen DeHay (Tri-County Technical College). Moderated by Jonathan T. of S&ME, the conversation highlighted how these institutions are driving workforce readiness, economic development, and upward mobility across South Carolina. With a $5.9B economic impact statewide, our technical colleges are aligning education with industry needs, removing barriers to student success, and creating accessible pathways to high-demand careers.
